Who We Are

The mission of the Lackawanna Blind Association is to support and promote the interests of the blind, visually impaired and the prevention of avoidable blindness.  Founded in 1912.  Registered with Pa Bureau of Charitable Organizations.  Accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Agencies Serving People with Blindness and Visual Impairments (NAC).  Member Agency of the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne counties.

What We Do

Programs and services for the blind and visually impaired:  Social Activity Programs - Exercise class, descriptive movies, sensory development, field trips, recreation.  Client Support Services - assist with correspondence, grocery shopping, referrals, life skills education, support groups.  Radio Reading Service - reading of the daily newspaper (Monday-Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.)  WUSR-FM, 99.5.  Prevention of Blindness Programs - visual screenings and educational programs for children and adults.  Fundraising events.
