Who We Are

Founded in 1997, Lackawanna Pro Bono is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that matches indigent individuals, primarily Lackawanna County residents, with local lawyers who volunteer their services for free representation in urgent civil legal matters in Lackawanna County.

Lackawanna Pro Bono is fortunate that many Lackawanna County lawyers are willing to volunteer their time and professional services to help those in need and that many individuals, organizations, and companies provide support to the organization.

What We Do

Lackawanna Pro Bono arranges for local lawyers to volunteer their services to provide free legal help to low income people who have serious civil legal problems in Lackawanna County.

Among the kinds of cases we handle are the following:

  • Protection from Abuse
  • Evictions and other landlord/tenant disputes
  • Child custody/visitation
  • Unemployment compensation
  • Debtor/creditor problems
  • Sheriff's sales
  • Child & spousal support
  • SSI overpayments & terminations
  • Certain other serious civil legal matters.
To be eligible for our services, a person's household income must be at or below 125% of the poverty level.
 
We do NOT handle: 
  • Cases that are not in Lackawanna County
  • Criminal cases
  • Fee generating cases (for example, cases in which you are suing someone else for money)
  • Cases for which another agency or the court will provide you with a free lawyer.

FAMILY LAW HELP DESK
Wednesday, November 29, 2017 10AM to Noon

Sponsored by Lackawanna Pro Bono, this FREE event will provide the opportunity for low income individuals who have family law problems in Lackawanna County to meet briefly with a lawyer - FREE OF CHARGE - to discuss their legal problem.  The lawyer will not represent these individuals, but may offer important information about the legal problem. 

To qualify for this service, a person must have a household income below 125% of the poverty level and must not be represented by an attorney at this time.
